Hubbub: The Language Learner Case Study
Project Overview
For my final UX design project with Google, I was given the option to complete a variety of different social centered apps. The topic I chose to research and design for is a language learning app.
As a desire to learn another language increases, the need for a useful product also increases. With the long list of language learning apps, there are a few features users have commonly shared that they wished these apps had.

This product attempts to resolve the pain points documented once research was completed.

The Problem
After completing a competitive audit, the products that are preferred were mainly dedicated apps that could only be completed on specific devices like an Apple phone or an Android, which limits how language learners connect.
In addition, one of the biggest pain points for all the apps were the lack of valuable feedback from a trained tutor or someone fluent in the language. Language learners are also frustrated with having to hoose between attending paid classes or learning on their own and losing motivation.
Project Goal
After finding the pain points, I wanted to focus on the biggest one: a tutor or professional to review material with and receive feedback, while still keeping the features users already love front and center.

Meet Perry!
Perry Nolan is a busy personal assistant who needs a convenient way to learn, practice, and maintain knowledge in a new language because he travels overseas for work and wants to connect with his bosses clients more personally.

Wireframes
After analyzing and synthesizing the research and interview results, it was important to start iterating how to focus on users pain points and solving those without creating more.

The first step was the create paper wireframes, then move to Figma to create a digital wireframe.

The first two images are the paper wireframes for an app and a website for Hubbub. The last two are the digital wireframes created in Figma.

Five digital wireframes representing the language learning app Hubbub. The wireframes follows the user flow of scheduling a tutoring session.

After wireframing and building a low fidelity prototype, it was important to determine exactly what pages would be featured on the page and how they're organized.

Results
Users enjoy having features they're use to, like chatting and independently lead learning, but also enjoy having the ability to get feedback from a tutor and talk with a trained professional to improve their ability to speak another language.

Hubbub's app design is beneficial for younger people always on the go like college students or nanny's and Hubbub's website design is beneficial for people that prefer to work in a dedicated workstation or already working in a dedicated workspace.

Final Thoughts
After spending time researching and exploring the different language apps and interviewing users, Hubbub as a few more elements that can be added to the app and the website to make it the product that fulfill all of my target users needs.

With time, I plan on including more features that make Hubbub worth purchasing and sharing within the language community.
